The N-S reports on a shooting this morning near an elementary school. Could this be what set off the lockdown of Whispering Meadows and Deer Ridge elementary schools earlier today?
A shooting was reported this morning to Fort Wayne Police, who searched a local apartment complex after multiple reports of a shot fired near Bunche Elementary, 1111 Greene St. An initial call to police described a group fighting in the 700 block of Oaklawn Court, said police Sgt. Steven M. Sorgen. Police found no evidence of the scuffle when they arrived. After that call was received, a custodian at Bunche called police to report a man with a gun running near the school. A third caller reported a shot being fired at Eden Green Apartments, 2201 Reed St., near Building 8B, about a block from the school. Police found a window broken by the gun discharge, but did not recover a shell. "It's obvious it was a shotgun," Sorgen said. Police questioned people at the apartments but had no suspects. "With nobody giving us a name there is nothing to go on," he said. No further information was available.UPDATE: Here's a story that we're pretty sure is related to the lockdown/pursuit:
Police are searching for a male suspect in a home invasion Tuesday that sent one person to the hospital. The home invasion took place around midnight Tuesday in the Shorewood addition off Illinois Road.
The Allen County Sheriff's Department was looking for a suspect today, but no further information was available. However, scanner traffic indicated police were looking for the suspect at a motel in the Waynedale area, and if found, the suspect could be charged with attempted homicide.
