Notes from the Crazies

From today's N-S Letters to the Editor:
There is a shameful report out of New Orleans saying that thousands of pets that were abandoned by irresponsible owners are being shot. Private groups like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are doing all they can to rescue these dogs, but there are just too many of them.

People should not be allowed to own pets unless they are willing to accept the responsibility for their animals. Pets should be protected from being abandoned, the same as children.

Please contact your congressional representative and senators and ask them to either sponsor or support legislation that will allow evacuees to take their pets with them and to prosecute those who don’t.

Harold Wilson
Corydon
NEWSFLASH: Pets are not more important than people. Allowing evacuess to bring along a pet -- or legally requiring it -- means one less spot for another human being.

And that's cruelty to people.
