Niki Kelly writes about how uninformed some people are with regard to the U.S. Constitution.
I would usually think that a federal mandate requiring schools to teach our students something about the U.S. Constitution this week to be a bit overreaching and preachy.
But that was until Monday, when hundreds of angry Gary residents took to the Statehouse for a loud and enthusiastic rally against a plan to close their only license branch.
It is exactly the type of thing our founders considered when drafting the First Amendment, which protects a person’s freedom of speech and right to petition the government.
What scared me a bit, though, was a young woman and her friend who happened on the gathering and asked a reporter colleague and me whether the Gary people were “allowed” to gather and shout like this.
